Cantilever Retaining Walls - Overview of the Design Process

Dear ASDIP Customer:

Cantilever retaining walls are self-standing structures whose design may be very cumbersome and time-consuming. The complex calculations imply multiple checks and the generation of load diagrams and details. But, what are the steps in the design process?

  • What lateral soil theory to use?
  • What are the stability failure checks?
  • How do you design the stem?
  • How do you design the footing?
  • How do you optimize your design?

I have prepared a new blog post with a short video, where I discuss the steps in the design of un-piled cantilever retaining walls. You are invited to read this blog post and watch the video.
