Shear Lug Design - Overview of the ACI Provisions


Shear lugs are steel elements welded to the underside of base plates to resist shear loads. The design of shear lugs may be time-consuming since it included the check of a number of limit states per the ACI 318-19 anchoring provisions.

But why do you need to design a shear lug? And if you need it, how do you design it? What are the limit states to be checked? Are there any additional dimensional requirements?
