Spread Footings Under Biaxial Bending: A Complex Design

Dear ASDIP Customer:

The design of spread footings subject to vertical loads and biaxial bending may be cumbersome and time-consuming, particularly for large eccentricities and partial bearing conditions. In such cases, the calculation of bearing pressures, shears, and moments may become very complex.

This blog post discusses the complexities that arise when biaxial large eccentricities are present in the design of spread footings. It explains the difficulty in the calculation of shears and moments. A short video shows graphically the design of such footings using ASDIP FOUNDATION. You are invited to read this blog post and watch the video.
