Concrete Continuous Beams: A Structural Design Challenge

Dear ASDIP Customer:
The design of concrete continuous beams may be time-consuming. After defining the loads, it's necessary to perform the beam analysis in order to find the shears and moments along the beam, and then design the reinforcement to provide the required strength,

  • How do you generate the shear and moment diagrams?
  • Is the shape of the cross section important?
  • How do you calculate the strength?

I have prepared a blog post with a brief overview of the engineering background and a short video, where I discuss the required steps in a typical concrete continuous beam design. You are invited to read this blog post and watch the video.
