The design of strap footings may be time-consuming. You have to size the footings to calculate the bearing pressures, punching shears, bending moments, and then design the reinforcement, check development lengths, minimum steel, etc. Then you need to design the strap beam for the shears and moments transferred from the footings.

But what about if you could model your strap footing in a software, enter the loads, and then be able to modify any of the variables involved in the design, check graphically the calculations immediately, and optimize your design as you go?

This is exactly what I have done in a new blog post with screenshots and a short video, where I show a step-by-step design example of a real-life strap footing from scratch. You are invited to read this blog post and watch the video.
